Using Technology to Sell: Tactics to Ratchet Up Results

Released in 2012 and this was Martin's first book and co-authored with Jonathan London his long term mentor and friend. The focus was the human side of technology and how we could reframe our use of old tools like email and also focus on the incoming changes.

Book Description

While the sales process will remain pretty much the same from now until the end of time, technology used properly can increase sales power at every step of the cycle. Technology, in the right hands, is a strategic weapon and a competitive differentiation tool that can dramatically improve close rates, deal size, efficiency, total sales, and much more. Using Technology to Sell will show you how to:

Expand your market through the use of technology.
Employ software-as-a-service (SaaS) applications to keep track of customers, stay organized, present, and sell more systematically.
Use social media to increase sales.
Maintain the personal element in a world wired with technology.
Use the best sales methodology and integrate each step with technology.
Overcome any aversion to using technology to sell.
Avoid the trap of overuse or dependency on technology.

Creating A new type of Mathematics

This statement had me chasing me studying for 3 years:

We humans are all irrational thinkers but code is built using rational mathematics, it’s all binary. The reason people feel like numbers is because we’ve written the code to do exactly that. Surely there is a way to understand people’s feelings on an individual level and then give that individual more of what they want and less of what they don’t.

The output is a new type of mathematics which does exactly what the problem statement needed, it has found a way to treat people based on their individual needs. Hunting needles in a haystack is possible.

I mention this as most of my work is about behaviour change and the problem solving model I created to accomplish that but the math stuff is also cool, it is seeking a home with a software company so retailers can go a bananas creating personalised experiences.
