Everything is an advert these days; every social post related to a brand, design, influencers – heck, even posts about what you ate for dinner are adverts of your life. That’s where the world has demonstrably changed in the past 10 years. Firstly, social media gave us a window into our friends’ lives, then we got a window into celebrities’ lives, and then a window into the lives of everyone in between. There is no one left who isn’t slinging their life, products, clothing, or cute kitten somewhere or other. But who is doing it well in the world of fashion?
I had a rummage around #advertising to find out. Here is what I loved and why:

I’m always taken by photography that makes you stop and think. Whilst this is not simply about fashion or clothing, it does tell a story which is a key way to think about what you advertise.

Che Guevara still sells because he is an icon!

I think this dude is very suave, plus the story is about that orange bow tie signifying ‘Awareness for Hunger’. Good man.

Who’s now really hungry?

Who now wants a Buscemi bag?
The subtlety of dark and light tones can be epic.

This is so, so, so good. Positive don’t give a sh*t attitude is a stone cold winner.

This is great pic. It’s hard to balance a magazine shot in person. Nice colour contrast and shine.

This is a vintage soap powder box. I love looking back in time for inspiration – the age of civility and clarity and ease of message. Job well done! It’s not fashion but it is a great example of a message, image and story done very well.
What is doing it well?
The power of advertising is in understanding your target market and what call to action you want. Note: it is only ever one call to action. You should note that not every image I selected was like an old school advert; we are in the time of storytelling, and pictures paint a thousand words. You can play this advertising game and see how you get on, it’s a fun test.
